One of my mates is a devout Christian and eventhough she would love to get a tattoo her folks believe that if she does, the consequence is that she will “most definitely go to hell”. I responded with “Welcome to the party!” However, it is interesting to see body art from a different perspetive. In today’s world almost one in five people has a tattoo. It doesn’t come across as such a big deal but apparently I’m wrong and it’s still a controversial thing to do especially in religious circles.

Take the Bible for instance: “Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.” (Leviticus 19:28) This is from the Old Testament which the modern Christian is not strictly commanded by. The New Testament doesn’t mention anything about tattoos. A Christian website says, “In relation to tattoos and body piercings, a good test is to determine whether we can honestly, in good conscience, ask God to bless and use the particular activity for his own good purposes.” This still leaves the decision up to the individual. What happens if a believer gets a tattoo of Christ done to celebrate or express his/her faith in God? Does that still make them a sinful Christian?

1 Corinthains 10:31 says, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it for the glory of God.” I think it boils down to the reason for getting the tattoo done. Is it because you think it’s going to look awesome on you or because it signifies something meaningful to you?

Just came across this during random Googling and thought I’d point out the obvious with the post……the Bible is contradiction after contradiction, hypocrisy after hypocrisy. If anyone needed proof that it is not worth the paper it’s written on then this is one of a million reasons. A nice piece of fictitious work but not something that you should base your life around. :)

I grew up in a Christian church my whole life. All of my immediate family are still devout Christians. I am no longer of that faith. When I was a Christian, I had a tattoo done and my Grandmother was quite upset. I scoffed at her for a moment and said “I’m sorry but my quest for beauty is no different than your extensive amounts of make up and lightly tattoo’d lip liner!” Which shut her up quite nicely. Some would argue that the reason you shouldn’t get a tattoo because “your body is your temple of/for God” but I know so many faithful Christians who ruin that “temple” by stuffing thir faces with McDonalds and PizzaHut. There is no hard evidence that supports that body modifications are indeed a way to send your soul into eternal damnation.

its not impt of wat i or u tink my frens, either u a for God or against him.u can’t serve both God n the devil.only 1. every action has a consequence.if u ar not sure whether as a christian getting a tatoo is ok, then instead of asking ur frens, y dun u refer to the word of the lord?! it says, tht ur body is a temple of GOD. if tht is the case then i urge u to keep tht temple clean.
