The poor Swastika.
March 4, 2007 |
I came across an article about skinheads and their tattoos. It seems there is a trend toward
face tattoos within this group. The article went on to suggest the funny irony of skinheads
in effect darkening their faces with these tattoos. Toward the end of the article there was
mention of the swastika as the most enduring negative symbol in the group and its popularity
as a tattoo. I truly want to laugh not at the main point of the article but at their description
of the swastika. The swastika is an ancient Dharmic symbol far more relevant to Buddhism and
Hinduism that it is to skinheads or Nazis. I just think the western world has still got a
lot to learn about the origins of many of its symbols. The Nazis used this symbol to attach
some historical relevance to their campaign. There is of course no logic in their choice to
use this symbol with respect to their ideology. We all should start to learn of the positive
side of this symbol and it’s role in 2 of the great religions/philosophies of the world
rather than remembering it’s misuse by Nazis. As for the Nazis/skinheads themselves, well
perhaps they should pick up a copy of the Vedas..lol. Just my 2 cents.

I completely agree with you
The swastika was a old celtic cross and a sign for good luck.
too bad the symbol of peace in the Hindu religion wasn’t angled…and it had 4 dots between the lines, the swastika was rotated, and removed the dots. So it’s not the exact same symbol, and I feel that the Nazi alteration of the peace symbol was a message in itself. If you’re going to bring back the symbol, bring back the actual one.
i know that the swastika is a sing of good luck but i still get in trouble for drawing it on papers. even when the paper is for piece
Yes it is an old celtic cross, as well as a greek symbol, as well and hindu and so forth.(just to let you know the symbol has changed and been adjusted for each use and the reason behind it) So technically it’s a new symbol made from the ancient symbol(s). Also skinheadz, white suprimicst, ayran brotherhood and nazis are differant kinds a racist groups and they have there own way of using each symbol. So instead of focusing on you “miss use” of a symbol why don’t everyone focus on something more important. Yeah racism is out there it always has and always will, but everyone has some kind of racism it’s just to what extent. Whether your chinese, japanese, native american, hindu, white or black you are racist to a extent, and you stereotype people because of there culture, religion, or color…
Yeah what she said. That’s the problem everyone is to busy whining over stupid shit rather than the points that matter. For example: all the children being jerked from there homes, abuse of children and women, rape, murder, and so on. these are crimes that matter not some symbol that is being used. If this is all you have to complain about then open up your damn eyes and stop being niave and thinking symbols and racism is the only problems out there. There are more. You give hate groups publicity and they love it. Worry about things that really matter.. How ignorant…
Well said layla. I give you props in educating yourself on the differant groups and realizing there differant. People are so wrapped up in stupid shit. What i think is completely fucked up is that all groups can have pride for there culture except the white ones. If white people have pride then it’s racist. That’s sad. I have white pride, but i’m not a racist. what tyre said. Get over yourselves worry about shit that matters…
I agree with Layla. Thank god that at least someone knows there a differance. Someone obvisouly educated as well. Come visit my site you might get enjoyment out of it. www.youtube.com/skinheadz/
I have already knew that the swastika had a postive meaning in the beginning, I have even been in buddhist and hindu temples and saw them on banners, and at the buddhist temple I saw the swastika on the buddha’s chest, and in these cultures they gave good knowledge of what their symbols means, and that the skinheads stole a good fortune charm.
Our religious symbol is also made up of the swastika and we have a website to promote it to:

swastika was a lithuanian sign too, you still can find it in lithuanian culture, i think it means sun in pagan religion and a man in lithuanian culture. thats what i read it in boods and internet xD
hell yeah the swastika represents itself for me white pride all the way and if u dont like it u can kiss my white ass. 23-16
the swastika is just one alteration of the sun cross, used in many many cultures. you can read about it here: http://altreligion.about.com/library/glossary/symbols/bldefssolarcross.htm
those racist fuckers can’t steal anything from us.
some people do still use it as a buddhist symbol or whatever in tattoos. it does need to be reclaimed!
i’d like to say, just as there are various meanings to the sign, you can’t classify ’skinheads’ as ‘nazis’ or the other way round. a significant, in fact probably larger, amount of skinheads are apolitical or *anti-fascist*. just look up groups like SHARP or RASH. a lot of skins don’t consider racists or fascists true skinheads either, because the whole culture originated from a fusion between jamaican immigrant and working class british music styles. just a thought.
white power!!! u race traitors will fall 1 day 148
