CCTV, security cameras, email scanning and recording, easily available spyware gadgets and people listening in on mobile and landline conversations??? What’s even more scary is that this is a growing industry with new technological advancements in spying products.
Seems like we’re living in George Orwells ‘1984′, scary stuff man. Nevermind reality TV, those idiots choose to be on the telly. Us, the general public on the other hand should have a choice as to whether we feel comfortable with being watched all the time. Apparently, in the UK, it’s illegal for police to install a camera on private property however it’s fine for your neighbour to put one up on his/her property and point it at your house. How bizzarre is that?
People are losing their jobs over this with employers hiring spy equipment and teams to track what staff are actually up to. It’s like we’re all back in school again and we have to be reported on all the time. I think that the cameras bring out the worst in people as well. It causes people to rebel, naturally. It’s a serious invasion of privacy. Where does the government draw the line? Or is there no line?
CCTV statistically does not reduce crime or anti-social behaviour. It just feels like a police state…which shouldn’t be necessary in a developed country. So much control breeds about a lack of freedom of speech, freedom of movement and generally freedom to simply be human.
